Where can you fly to Koh Samui from? Here we break down your options.
Domestic flights:
OK so you have Bangkok Airways which has a monopoly on Samui airport (USM). So if you want to land on the island, this really is your only choice. Bangkok Airways flights to Koh Samui is renowned for being very pricy compared to other domestic flights in Thailand. Most of the time, you’re looking at about $250 USD for a return flight from Bangkok (ouch). Other than flights originating in Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport, they also have direct flights to Koh Samui from the following airports:
Otherwise you can fly to Surrathani airport, on the mainland, get a car/van/bus to take you to Donsak pier and take the ferry across to Koh Samui. This is definitely a cheaper option but it will take you almost a whole day. AirAsia flies this route and even has the option of arranging land transportation to the pier for you.
International Flights:
Bangkok Airways also have flights originating from Singapore and Hong Kong that fly to Koh Samui directly.
There used to be flights from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Guangzhou, China. But whether these routes will be reopened remains to be seen.
